EVANS EMAD 2 Richard Geer's New Bass Drum HeadsDuring the disassembly of my kit for the studio soundproofing it dawned on my that I have not changed my bass drums since I purchased the kit in 2003, Wow! I have gone through a few tom head changes and many snare heads but for some reason overlooked this key head on both of my bass drums. For the most part I didn’t think they sounded too bad but since the kit is down and being cleaned I am going to replace them.

My buddy Clark who owns Clark’s Music Center recommended the EVANS EMAD2 bass drum head. Since I run fairly small bass drums at 18×20 due to my sitting height and desired tom height, I want to maximize the depth of sound from the drum as much as possible. Clark had a couple of drums set up with the EMAD2 and I was able to listen to them and was impressed with the low end tone and nice attack the heads demonstrated. I also like the adjust-ability option of the dampening so I can really dial in the tone and resonance that I am looking for.

The heads will be going on today after a deep cleaning of the drum shells and I am looking forward to my first recording with them. You can read more about them here.

More to follow..... Keep On Drumming!!!
