Home Drum Recording Studio Colors

My crude Photoshop mockup of the rough color palette I plan to use in my newly soundproofed home recording studio walls.

After much research and digging around the web for images of home recording studio colors, I think I am narrowing down my choice to a safe, neutral color pallet of muted blue and grey. I currently have paneled walls which will be removed (sorry granddad) and replaced with Sheetrock and Green Glue layering.Ā  I was considering a warmer color scheme of deep reds and oranges but I think it clashes too much with the room and my current blue and grey homemade sound panels. I read that it is recommended to use reds and orange colors for creativity and energy but I think I might get tired of them over time especially when I am mixing my drum tracks.

Neutral Color Pallete IdeasIf interested there is tons of information on the psychology of color online but I think it should really come down to your personal preference and comfort level with the amount of time you may have to look at the colors. I then searched further and found that some home studio musicians prefer a more neutral and timeless color pallet that is easy to be in for many hours. If I had the drum set in a separate location from my mixing equipment I would probably go with the red and orange colors for the energy and keep the mixing room neutral. But that won’t work for me in my situation.

So the next step is to get actual swatches and start narrowing the blues and greys down a bit further before I paint. The Sheetrock and Green Glue is going in this weekend so I should be able to start painting soon after that. I am very excited to be able to record soon full throttle and to be less annoying to the neighbors. Soon I will be able to play more aggressive without the psychological impact of concern for the people around me.

Oh and I just got work that my MXL Drum Cubes are in, heading to get them this evening from Clark’s Music Center.

More to follow..... Keep On Drumming!!!
